About us

farmer and researcher in field

The Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems (CIAS) is a research center at the University of Wisconsin's College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. We were created in 1989 to build UW sustainable agriculture research programs that respond to farmer and citizen needs...and involve them in setting research agendas. This means that human relationships are at the core of everything we do.

We build meaningful citizen involvement into our programs with the help of a Citizens Advisory Council.

A Faculty Associates group helps us develop relationships with faculty members representing a broad range of academic disciplines.

CIAS staff members work with these partners to create flexible, multidisciplinary research and education/training projects.

Who funds our work?

The research and outreach of CIAS is supported by state funds, as well as grants and gifts from:

  • American Farmland Trust
  • College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, University of Wisconsin-Madison
