Hazelnut Story Map

Posted February 2017

Universities, agencies, organizations, businesses and growers are partnering to study and build a hazelnut industry in the Upper Midwest. The budding industry needs investment in infrastructure, genetics and propagation, best management practices, harvesting, value-added processing, marketing and promotion, and it needs to be a profitable enterprise for producers. But among a growing group, optimism abounds.

CIAS and the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) are creating an ESRI Story Map about the effort to commercialize the American Hazelnut. This story map illustrates:

  • The history of the American Hazelnut
  • Supply issues
  • Cultivar selection
  • Mechanization
  • Product Development
  • Environmental and health benefits of hazelnuts

Please check back this spring for a link to the story map.
