The Foodshed Directory

A compendium of sustainable farm and food organizations serving Dane County, Wisconsin

Contents

Welcome to the World of Sustainable Eating!

Those of us who live and work in Madison and other areas in Dane County are fortunate to have numerous opportunities to support a local and sustainable food system.  We can buy foods produced by local growers at farmers’ markets, pick-your-own operations, and farm-stands, or we can join a community supported farm (CSA).

Several area restaurants feature locally grown food. Food grocery cooperatives offer produce and other items from regional producers.  And there are countless non-profit groups working on food and farming issues, many of which depend upon member and volunteer involvement.

For those of you from Dane County, we hope that this compendium of sustainable farm and food organizations will provide you with the information you need to eat sustainably and help build a sustainable food system.  For those of you from regions outside of this county, we hope that this compendium will provide you with ideas and suggestions to bring back to your own home place.

A note about how this compendium was put together

The organizations and facilities listed in this compendium were chosen by the Wisconsin Foodshed Research Project, based on our familiarity with organizations in the county.  We apologize if we have omitted other organizations or if the information in the listing is not up to date.

The information in the compendium was gathered through review of public documents, formal interviews, discussions, and in some cases, written by representatives of the organization itself.  We have sought to include the most up-to-date information available to us, but we have doubtless erred on occasion.

We anticipate that we will update this compendium annually and request your assistance in doing so.  If you are not listed and wish to be included, or if you would like update your listing, please contact:
