Wisconsin Dairy Sheep School

Location: Spooner Agricultural Research Station

This five-day course will feature lectures on topics such as weaning and artificial rearing of lambs, mastitis and milk quality, parlor design and milking machine function, ewe nutrition, and milk handling regulations.  Speakers will include:

•    Dr. Pamela Ruegg, University of Wisconsin-Madison
•     Dr. Doug Reinemann, University of Wisconsin- Madison
•     Dr. Bob Leder,  United Veterinary Services
•     Tom Kieffer, Dream Valley Farm
•     Larry Meisegeier , Wisconsin Sheep Dairy Cooperative
•    Brenda Jensen, Hidden Springs Creamery

In addition, the five-day course will provide hands-on experience in the milking parlor and caring for young lambs, reinforcing information provided in daily lectures.  Download the brochure and application form here.

CIAS staff, programs featured in Grow Magazine

The Spring 2012 issue of Grow Magazine from CALS includes a feature article on "Growing Future Farmers." The article profiles CIAS staff member Rebecca Claypool, who raises vegetables on her farm near Avoca, Wisconsin. Rebecca works on our Veggie Compass project. The article also features the Wisconsin School for Beginning Dairy and Livestock Farmers, directed by CIAS staff member and beef farmer Dick Cates. Read the article here.
