Driftless Region Food and Farm Project

Posted March 2010

On Thursday, March 18, CIAS facilitated a meeting of more than 70 individuals committed to expanding the Driftless Region’s food system assets. Featured speakers represented organizations from throughout the area, including Southeast Minnesota Regional Partnerships, the Driftless Area Initiative, Riverlands Partnership, Northeast Iowa Food and Farm Coalition, and the Valley Stewardship Network. Most encouraging of all, following two hours of round table brainstorming, we emerged with the beginning stages of collaboration around a few important sectors of the regional food industry. A subsequent meeting is tentatively planned for July. This meeting served as part of CIAS work to build a coalition around the emerging Driftless Region Food and Farm Project. To learn more about the group, visit its blog at www.driftless.wisc.edu. The meeting was also highlighted in a recent column in the La Crosse Tribune.
