Michael Fields Agricultural Institute has announced a broad offering of interactive workshops and on-site field trainings for 2008. Newly emerging farmers, farmers in transition and those who have been farming for many years can benefit from these courses. This workshop series also creates opportunities for consumers to enter into farm life through cooking, gardening and farm tours.

The workshops cover four broad topics:

  • The Land is the foundation of farm sustainability. These courses develop a deeper understanding of farm fertility.
  • The Farm offers production-based workshops in market crops and animal production.
  • The Tools offers workshops that range from entry level equipment usage to finding added value on the farm, providing practical skills that will accelerate business development and profits.
  • The Community represents the relationship that consumers need in today's society to feel more closely connected to the farms that produce the food they eat. Traditional farm life skills are taught in the Michael Fields Kitchen with farm-fresh products.

Many of the workshops are held at the Michael Fields Agricultural Institute in East Troy. Others are held on farms. For more information, visit the Michael Fields website or contact Therese at 262-642-3303 ext. 4.
